Itineraries
Day 1
Setting Off from Chogoria
Commencing at 0800hrs, we'll collect you from your residence, hotel, or the airport. Our route takes us through picturesque agricultural landscapes, leading to Chogoria town where we'll indulge in a satisfying lunch. Following this, we'll take a 4x4 and drive up to the edge of the enchanting bamboo forest, where our trekking adventure commences. The dense bamboo forest will accompany us for a distance of 10 km until we reach the mesmerizing Mt. Kenya Banda's (2,900m), our first campsite.
Day 2
Your Plan
At 0800hrs, we embark on a slightly longer walk, passing by Lake Ellis, offering captivating views of Mugi, Ithanguni, and the Giants Billiards Table. Alternatively, we can follow the river near the road head, reveling in the beauty of the foreground scenery and flora, which is particularly enchanting. Our lunch spot will be alongside a picturesque stream. Afterward, we ascend the left-hand hillside to reach our camp at approximately 3,600m, where we'll have dinner and spend the night.
Day 3
Your Plan
Starting at 0800hrs, after a hearty breakfast, we set off along a ridge, ascending the mountain for about 3 hours until we eventually join the tourist track on the normal Chogoria route, situated at an altitude of around 4,100m. The views over the Gorges Valley and back towards Ithanguni and the Northern Moorlands are simply breathtaking. Lunch will be served at a small stream crossing before we continue for an additional hour to reach the Mintos Hut area at 4200m, our next campsite.
Day 4
Your Plan
Rising at 0330hrs, we begin an early climb through a steep stony quarry that traverses a cliff, gradually unveiling the visible part leading to lower Hall Tarns. At 6:30 am, after approximately 3 hours, we triumphantly arrive at Point Lenana, standing tall at 4,985m (16,355 ft.), just in time to witness the awe-inspiring sunrise. Following this unforgettable spectacle, we descend to Shiptons for breakfast. Afterward, we embark on a 5-hour descent via Mackinder's valley, experiencing the gentler side of the landscape, which includes the moorlands, before arriving at the Old Moses camp (3,300m).
Day 5
Your Plan
An early morning breakfast sets us in motion as we begin a 3-hour descent to the Sirimon Park gate, where we'll catch a vehicle for our journey back to Nairobi. The expedition concludes, and we aim to arrive in Nairobi in ample time to drop you off at your residence, hotel, or the airport.
Embark on this adventurous 5-day Mount Kenya climbing expedition, traversing the mesmerizing Chogoria to Sirimon Gate route, and immerse yourself in nature's grandeur and the allure of diverse terrains. Led by our expert team, this journey promises unforgettable experiences and captivating memories that will linger in your heart for a lifetime
