3 Days Masai Mara Safari Package

Masai Mara is the best safari destination in Kenya. Characterized by high wildlife density, Masai mara is the only place in Kenya where you can sight all the big five within the first 15 minutes of your safari. The greater mara vegetation is largely open savannah grasslands, and you are not required to go off-road to watch game scenes happening away from the park’s main roads.

Masai Mara has the largest lion concentrate in Africa and is the best place to watch predation action, especially along the riverine forest lining the Mara river that separates the Masai Mara and the mara triangle from Serengeti National park in Tanzania. The park is well known for the scenic river crossing, a well-known phenomenon in the migration cycle.

Where to stay?

Camps inside Masai Mara

This is the best option, especially when traveling during the migration period. Masai Mara’s best accommodations are along Mara river, which has excellent game view spots. Such accommodations include The Mara Expedition Camp, The little governor’s camp, Mara Serena lodge, and Governors’ Il Moran Camp. The little governor’s camp is the best choice since it is near a popular wildebeest river crossing route and, therefore, the best for tracking the herds as the phenomena. Importantly, the camp is one of the only two camps in the remote south-Western section of the Mara triangle. The Mara triangle is the best place within the public park where there is no crowd menace seen in the high and peak season. The intersection also has a higher wildlife density, with all the big five found within 5 square km. Animals in the region do not migrate as the mara river act as a natural buffer.

Camps outside Masai Mara

These are facilities set along the borders of the main park. Less than 30 minutes drive from the six main gates. These facilities include Enkorok Mara camp, Mara sidai camp, Enchoro Mara camp Jambo Mara safari camp. Though not as popular and expensive as facilities inside the park, proximity to the main gate and strategic location within the precincts of the main park make your stay similar to what you will get in the main park. The only difference is that you will access the main park from outside. Importantly, persons staying inside the main park won’t have added advantage in hours in the wilderness as there are no game drives taking place after closing hours.

Masai Mara experience in seasons

Masai Mara safari from December to Mid-March and October

This is the high season which is largely dry. Most of the savannah lands have thinned out, and the wildlife moves to the few remaining grazing spots along the riverine and floodplains. During this period, game viewing is optimal as it is easier to track games confined in different game hotspots within the park. This is the best time to go on a safari away from the crowded migration period.

Masai Mara safari in April to June and November

April to June is the long rains season. Very few visitors come to the park over this period and most of the accommodation facilities are charging very favorable rates. It is the best time to travel on a tight budget. Even though the increased lush grasslands scatter the wildlife, the high wildlife density keeps the game view good and enjoyable. The season is the best for birding as most exotic species migrate from Europe and Asia over this period. November and the first weeks of December are the short rains and offer an experience akin to the long rain season.

Masai Mara in July to September

This is the migration period. The season starts with the Mara river crossing in the last two weeks of July and August. This is the most sought-after event, and the number of visitors is peaking. In September, game viewing is at its best, with heightened hunting scenes occasioned by the sudden increase in prey. Towards the end of September, the herds will have diverted eastwards, exiting greater mara via eastern Serengeti.
